Replacement Children

When Bloodlines Disappoint

About

Charlie Woods, a former Marine, survived three tours in Afghanistan without a scar. He isn’t as lucky chauffeuring crafty Vivien Granville from her home in rural Georgia to her youngest son's funeral in Key West. Vivien, the matriarch of a mega-wealthy and equally dysfunctional family, suspects her five surviving children plan to spring a nursing home surprise on her after the funeral. Needing defense against the plotters, she schemes to deploy Charlie's simple decency as a shield.

At the funeral, Charlie involvement in family activities, orchestrated by Vivien, produces hostilities with her eldest son and tempting advances from a beautiful and promiscuous daughter. He wants only to escape all the Granvilles until Vivien adds a made-in-heaven job offer back in Georgia. He overrides his soldier's wariness and accepts. It allows him and Desiree, his ambitious and jealous wife, to pay down their mounting debts, but Granvilles don’t surrender. Once everyone returns home, plots hatch in multiple camps. Game on, and the ultimate outcome is one neither family could have imagined.
